For Anne on our anniversary

There is no doubt: you married well; no need to dwell on here

For this is just a ‘thank you’ note for all these many years,

For everything you are and all the love you’ve shown.

I love you as I did that day thirty-six years ago.

You made our home, you built our life around a mother’s care.

You gave your all to all who came to those who ventured there,

and to my dreams you gave your all, though often not convinced.

And through it all as you loved that day and every day ever since.

Our hopes came sevenfold to us, no plan: just gift and grace.

To each you poured such love and joy and laughter filled the place.

For though the years and days have passed as do the grains of sand,

In them those years invested, now as sentinels they stand.

They stand in the faith and love you gave them; strong and sure and free

And they in turn have passed it on, The Godhead; one and three.

And each has made their mark on the world as gifts just like their Mum.

and new life comes to light their lives just like the morning sun.

One day we know the last, lone grain will fall through the hour glass,

and one day even time itself will fail as all will pass.

But nothing is lost that’s borne in love as like an acorn grown.

I love you as I did that day; thirty six years ago!
