Ethical dilemmas in Artificial Intelligence

Tuesday’s Children: Artificial Intelligence and the demise of human autonomy

I use ChatGPT now for about an hour a day. It is an incredibly helpful assistant in formatting and layouts for my books. It doesn’t always get things right and has occasionally taken me down a dead-end or two. I explore some of the ethical issues with AI in my novel. One problem I did not anticipate (maybe the subject of another title!) is the tendency to treat ChatGPT and other AI chats as if they hold personhood. Certainly, they are programmed to interact that way, but I admit I find it strangely irksome and somewhat compelling to say ‘thanks’ when it achieves a task for me.

The story began in my mind as a horror story of a soul-stealing ghoul. As I began to formulate the outline – again in my mind – it morphed into a critique of artificial intelligence and an exploration of the ethics and risks if AI, all bound within a story of four good friends.

Some of the reviews are listed here. Thank you!

The narrative weaves deep friendships and romance, highlighting loyalty and courage in a future where human traits face obsolescence. A compelling read that balances emotional depth with a critical look at technology. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the intersection of human nature and AI.

Russell’s engaging writing and vivid depiction of South Australia make it an easy and immersive read. Highly recommended for those interested in the intersection of human nature and AI.

Reads like a thriller but also makes you wonder about our future with AI now a fixed part of it. I found the technology writing complex but was drawn in by the story and characters. Great read!

The characters are likable, and the story is truly moving in places. The ideas discussed are indeed thought provoking, and there are a few plot twists I certainly didn’t see coming. My interest was sustained right up until the end. I look forward to reading more by this talented writer.

Those ‘four friends’ stayed in my head ‘rent-free’ as they say, for quite a while after the novel was published. The story wasn’t over. The final chapter, if you will, will be available in a month or so.

In the meantime, I’ve dropped the price of the paperback version for anyone interested.
