The forever child
Born, born-again, new life
Dawn, flight, light breezes.
The senses know the story.
A story old but ever new.
Light is the heart that ponders.
Born of the earth to grow, to live and die,
But always the forever child.
To each of us,
Born to grow.
But sorrows, trauma, hurts and pains,
Our hurts that no-one knows.
Our child, our inner child to see,
The sunrise as for the first time.
Glistening rays through rain-soaked leaves.
Clean, renewed, alive.
The forever child longs to be loved.
Adored as the babe of old.
Cherished, acknowledged, and healed of pain.
Soothed by the light again and again.
For hurts and pains in childhood echo through the years,
Maybe they never totally go away.
Spend time with the little child,
Soothe, caress, listen, hold hands.
Let them run down leafy lanes,
Let freedom light their eyes,
Let wonder fill their every moment,
Like the vastness of the skies.
Become close friends lead them by your hand,
To the promise of the day,
When all their pains and sorrows will disappear
With you to guide their way.
For they react to hurt and pain that stopped them long ago
That left them as a hurting child,
You feel the pain, I know.
Your comfort and your adult care for them will be,
The light that lights their darkened path,
The spark that sets them free.
And the dawn will rise in you, my friend,
And you will walk those lanes too.
Your heart will be light, your eyes so bright,
And all will see in you,
A freedom there so beautiful, a wonder like your child
A grace upon your every word,
A newness in your smile.
And you will be to others then a door for them to see,
Their own forever child who needs to know,
Their love to set them free.
Do not fear to let them know that joy and freedom waits
If they but follow in your steps to find their child and make,
The same steps you have taken to be the you they see
That heals through time and space with love
That redeems your history.
For borne out of your courage like the waves upon the sea,
Your newness, joy and love radiate to all who see,
Who cannot help but marvel at your peace and calm and joy
Past hurts and pains you share with them
Will also heal.
And like the flower that sets its gaze upon the rising sun,
Never doubt your healing path, the new life you’ve begun.
Don’t turn away, don’t turn your back, for that’s where shadows be,
The cares of life would drag you back, to a time before you’re free.
Your forever child will always be, they will always have a need.
Guide them on to better ways, remember to be free.
Remember that your little friend will always be a child,
They need the adult, healing, you to be their one true guide.
Luke 18:16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
